Functieomschrijving
You're going to help us develop and professionalize our web applications and databases. You'll ensure that our applications are user-friendly, robust, and high-performing from front to back for our customers. At the same time, you make sure the code remains maintainable and straightforward.

Our applications are partly built in ASP.NET WebForms and partly in ASP.NET Razor Pages. We’re actively working on migrating all the “older” applications to the more modern framework. We use PostgreSQL as our database, hosted in Azure. Additionally, we make use of several Azure services, such as Azure Web Apps, Azure Function Apps, Azure Service Bus, and Azure Event Grid.

This position is aimed at a full-stack web developer. That means you’ll be working on the HTML front end, the .NET backend, and the PostgreSQL database. You’ll be part of our Development team, which consists of five in-house Developers (3 Web and 2 App Developers), a Tech Lead, a UX Designer, and a Product Owner. We have many products and a small team, so developing applications that are simple, maintainable, secure, operable, and supportable is very important to us.

Although we work Agile, we’ve been moving away from strict Scrum lately. Instead, we’ve adopted some principles from Shape Up! We’re still refining our process and look forward to your input to take it even further.

Here are a few examples of work we’ve recently done on our applications:

  • Migrated our Winter Management application from ASP.NET WebForms to ASP.NET Razor Pages.
  • Completely redesigned our Winter Management application to make it even more user-friendly.
  • Built a Geocoding service that converts addresses into lat/lon coordinates for the map.
  • Tracked down and resolved a performance issue in our logging library.
  • Created a new library for creating, sending, and receiving events between our applications.
  • Built a proof of concept for sending events via Azure Event Grid to enable communication between tablets.

Functie-eisen
We’re looking to expand our team with a Developer who’s ready to take on the challenge of renewing and maintaining the five web applications and dozens of services in our portfolio. Of course, we don’t expect you to tackle all of that from day one. A solid grasp of the fundamentals of software development, software support, and teamwork will definitely help you get up to speed quickly within our organization.

You’re someone with a clear opinion on software quality—always searching for the simplest and most maintainable solution that best fits the user’s needs. At the same time, you understand that this ideal isn’t always achievable, and you’re able to weigh trade-offs to come to the best possible solution.

You also recognize yourself in the following:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s level of working and thinking.
  • A degree in software development or another IT-related field is a plus—but we’re also open to someone who’s self-taught and learned everything through hands-on experience.
  • You have experience as a Web Developer. Experience with ASP.NET, Azure, PostgreSQL, and Hotwire is a plus.
  • You have an eye for software quality and enjoy sharing your insights with colleagues.
  • You’re interested in modern solutions and technologies and like to bring fresh ideas to the table.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden
You’ll be joining an organization of around 20 enthusiastic colleagues. We’re a close-knit team and always there for one another. We have big ambitions and are growing rapidly, but we also place great importance on your work-life balance. We’re a modern employer that offers a lot of flexibility and freedom, and your efforts are genuinely appreciated. The atmosphere is informal, open, and friendly. At Jewel, we’re just ourselves, and your ideas are always welcome. What else can you expect from us?

  • A gross base monthly salary between € 4.000,- and € 5.000,- based on 40 hours per week at the start.
  • An annual profit-sharing bonus and a solid pension plan.
  • 28 vacation days per year based on a 40-hour workweek.
  • The option to work remotely. You’re always welcome at the office, but to keep the team spirit strong, we find it important that you’re present regularly – for example, once a week. If you live farther away, that can be a bit less often.
  • We’ll provide the setup you need (laptop/desktop), and you can indicate what works best for you.
  • Plenty of room for personal development, including a budget for courses, books, conferences, etc.
  • A new office in Wageningen, a comfortable workplace, and well-catered lunches every day.
  • Two to three fun company-wide team events per year, such as dinners, barbecues, or an occasional weekend getaway.
